Libre Comme un Oiseau

Created in the wake of Shiye Xiao's loss of her grandmother, Libre comme un Oiseau explores the themes of grief, death as a reminder of Life itself.
The film delves into the intimate connections between the body, nature, laughter and memory, highlighting the power of play and the healing process through movement, laughter, sound.

The film's journey began unexpectedly. The day before we met, Shiye, visibly moved, was in tears in class. Upon learning that she was mourning her grandmother, I invited her to join me in a cathartic act of release. Together, we went to Battersea Bridge and screamed, primal screams . The following morning, we met at 6 AM in Hyde Park to dance—an act of reclaiming life. Libre comme un Oiseau is a result of this collaboration, an experimental assemblage of our shared experience, filled with raw emotion and the celebration of being alive.
